I am in the process of uploading pictures to the Miami Redlands section of Localism. I hate uploading pictures. Even with DSL. I like to insert an accurate description for each so people find them valuable and that takes a little longer. I also couldn't find my camera cable until yesterday so I am behind in my picture uploading.
Anyway, here I sit wishing I could make quick work of this. A thought comes to mind. Maybe Little One (my 12-year old) can lend a helping hand and earn some cash. She's getting antsy and wants to go home. I can entertain her and rid myself of a chore all at the same time. I offer her 10 cents per picture.
"How many do you have?" she wants to know. "About 50," I answer (I've fallen way behind in my photo duties).
"Oh! That's 50 cents!" she tells me. I smile real big and answer "umm, yeah, it could be." But I think I must have looked like the Cheshire cat as she quickly realized her mistake. She starts laughing and corrects her calculation.
She agrees to the $5 but only "because it will help me." What a sweet and unselfish child I have (uh huh). I still have to look at the pictures and give her a caption for each one, but it will help me as I finish up some paperwork on my desk.
Tomorrow is Take-your-child-to-work Day and she's coming with me. I'm not sure I can afford her.

Hi, Maggie! I think I'm keeping Tall One with me tomorrow. Not a heavy workday for me ... AGAIN. *Sigh* We're taking hubby's car to get an inspection and an oil change. I'll e-mail my one buyer and check in with a couple sellers. After that, maybe I'll let her be a guest writer on my blog???
I'll have to go check out your pictures! Shame we can't comment on them, huh?
What a great chance to work with your sweetie instead of shopping her off on the TV while you earn a living.
You are a wise mom as well as a busy one.
Oooh! You got a star, Maggie!! You go, girl!!
(Do you have to pay your assistant extra for that?)
Sounds like there may be a 1099 due by the end of the year at this rate! Localism Apprentice - stay tuned!
lol .. I want a kid...ohhh well all in due time... I want to have silly stories like maggie to share with you guys...
Bohooooo!
hmmmmmmm i think i should have kids! heheehhe
fun post!
Broker Maggie: Almost-a-teen, yet still helpful! Not only that, but you made use of a nifty teaching moment. A few of those teaching moments in my life, and I wouldn’t be here writing fantasy melodramas! Have fun with your daughter tomorrow—memories are made of that stuff!
Jay
Sweet Broker-Maggie,
Congrats on another feature, you sure know how to do things right! So is the first time for her at your office? Sounds like she has it better than mine did, I used to drag them everywhere with me.
Let us know how it works out!
Girl you just 'work' this AR. I need so many pics! I'm sure she would love to come to SoBe!
haven't you heard of child slavery laws - I need to have a talk with your daughter!!! Diego asked me today if he could have a blogger blog...if he starts at 10, imagine how great his writing skills will be by the time he gets to college?
Maggie _ I always involve my family, they point out pictures and tell me places that thought would make a good subject.
Maggie enjoy the bring your child to work day. My children still have fond memories of those days. Just last week I went by a building I use to work in and my son remembered riding in the robotic mail system that ran throughout the office.
Maggie.... this is cute. But I'll do it for $4.50. ;o) I just have nieces and nephews and I will utilize them when they get close to 10to 12 years old. Having them hand out fliers and such.
Wow, I woke up to a featured post and lots of comments. I love them both! Thank you Moderators and fellow Rainers. =)
Sarah - I'd love to see a post by TO. That's a great idea! If she's half as good at writing as her Mommy is, I am sure it will be quite the read. Please do it!
Nick - no need to call the authorities. Little One gave up after earning 60 cents. I spent more than that on her yesterday at the snack machine. I hope hiring assistants will be easier than this!
Beth - oh dear. I'm as square as they come. All this talk of lawlessness makes me glad she stopped! She got busy with YouTube and kept distracting me by showing me some really funny videos. It was almost like I was on AR with TLW, Ines and Nick and all their videos! I think I need to change my strategy today. She is NOT going near the computer.
Paula - thank you for the very nice compliment but I am afraid I can't accept it. We were at the office and there's no TV there. Grandparents were not home yesterday afternoon so I picked her up at school and brought her to the office with me. As we drove in she was telling me that I was missing one thing in my office (she had visited once before). Guess what it was? A TV. I told her fat chance!
Sarah - ::smiling:: thanks! sshhhhh, she might ask to stop at Toys R Us on the way home if she hears of my success.
Lysa - so that's the magic number, eh? That is good information! How did you know my pictures were HUGE? lol Is there a way to resize them all at once? As for your cards, you might have better luck with my Big One, seeing how Little One quit on me already. They are now both coming to work with me and I am afraid I'll have more work instead of less. Oh well, it'll be fun and we can actually leave the office for lunch, which I never do unless I'm out already.
Timothy - I sent you an email before responding to these comments. Hopefully you got it in time. It is child, not daughter, so I hope you're taking your little one with you. Nothing like little mini-me in a suit to melt some hearts and get you some listings! Let us know how it goes please.
Luther - I, along, with all the other parents are laughing at that. Once the kids come, they are in charge, not the other way around! Of course, I am joking...somewhat... as expensive and time-consuming as they are, they are still a blessing, even if not cheap help. In due time you will have your own expensive little assistants who will do everything but your dirty work. But you will love every minute of it!
Oh Sharon - life is good! Did I tell you I think your son is a cutie? Is he too old for me to be calling him that? You are so lucky. Really! I keep trying to convince my kids to come into this business with me and they'll have none of it. That may have something to do with my struggles though so maybe they'll reconsider when the pipeline is filled and things work the way they're supposed to =)
Tony - oh how I wish she would work enough to earn a 1099! Is it still a $600 minimum? She quit on me at 60 cents! The eldest is now trying to make it into an elite cheerleading squad (replace "elite" with "expensive") and the only way I can let her try is if she promises to raise some funds on her own. Maybe she'll finally decide to help me out after school.
Nattalie - yes, everything in due time. Enjoy the peace and quiet around the house now =) And who says you need kids for silly stories? Look at TLW and Broker Bryant's blogs. They've got lots of silly and their kids are all growed up =) now. C'mon now, go write us a silly story and put a link to it back in here. I'm sure you can do it!
Bruno - hi! Start charging for the the flyers first. Kids are expensive!! lol
Hi Favorite Jay - I am getting two-for-the-price-of-one today. My eldest decided this would be a good way to get out of highschool for the day. She forgot who she's tangling with though. When I told her it was great that she was coming to work with me today her smile quickly faded. Faced with school or Mom she chose Mom so I must be the lesser of two evils. Sounds like a Mother's Day card, no? =) You're right, we'll be making memories today (and lots of noise...I hope the other agents can stand it!)
Hi Lynda! I've no idea how I got back up there, but I like it! Little One has visited my office before but never to work. I am still thinking how to put them both to use today so they don't end up getting bored or fighting. They're 3 years apart and not the best of friends. This sounds like a job for Supermom....anybody know where I can find her?
Vickie - hi! She knows about AR and asked me if I was getting points for my pictures. <<tsk, tsk>> I think she's well on her way. ROFL I went over to Localism last night and saw your pretty face on the Florida page. Keep up the good work!
Kevin - no, no, 50 pictures in 2 months is not a lot. lol I actually need to start "working" Localism and stop having so much fun socializing in the Rain. But it's so much F-U-N! As for South Beach, yes, I am sure they would both love it. I am not showing them your profile or they'll quickly ask me to drop them off with uncle Kevin and leave Mommy behind. lol
Ines - I think Diego's got a great idea there. Monika & Jay's grandson wanted the same. Did you guys ever get one going in the Rain? It was mentioned there. My Little One loves to write but she hasn't yet been bit by the Blogging Bug (not to be confused with the other double B, Blog Boy...or is he up to 4 B's already?)
Jennifer - that's so cool. Your story made me smile. Kids have the darndest memories, don't they?!
Michelle - I think that's great. I hope I can convince both of mine to do this with me and they can be fully licensed assistants then! I would love to be able to work with my kids. Lucky girl. Enjoy it!
Karen - I think I may have misrepresented her. She is actually a great kid with others. With me she's a bit bossy. She calls me "young lady" and everything! As in "what do you think you're doing, young lady?" and in the next breath she tells me a story about her "really old" 35 year old teacher. Seeing as how I have 10 years on her 35 y.o teacher I can't decide whether I'm "decrepit" or "young lady." She keeps me smiling.
Dena - ha ha ha ha I'm trying to think what the doggies could help you with. Stamping things maybe? Licking stamps for the mailers? Breathing heavy on the phone when another mortgage broker calls? Just kidding all you MB's!!
Jeff - you got the job! Your nieces and nephews are adorable. I remember the post you did and then you changed your picture. She's a real sweetie! I bet I know where a lot of your money goes!
Valerie - yes, kids are definitely great. I am sure your 8-year old is already ahead of the game as far as having a handle on finances. If we don't teach them how to be responsible with money and how hard it is to earn they'll keep thinking it grows on trees. I'd uproot all my lychee trees and replace them with money trees if it did!! Is your little one working with you today?
John - the kids always manage to teach me a thing or two and I do love spending time with them so I am looking forward to the day. You just gave me an idea. They each have cameras, they can be my "roving reporters" and take pictures for me daily. Some rules will have to set about quality though. I can imagine them trying to collect on 37 pictures of the lunch line at the school cafeteria. Not the best Localism pics. =)
Ines - I think it's great that you'll allow him to. I am sure he'll learn all the rules. I can just see him getting really into blogging. He's living with a fine example after all =)
Carole - now that I'm actually in the office with both my girls I'm thinking of sending them both to school! They've already argued. I had to comfort one as she cried and the work's not getting done. Calgon, take me away!
