Somebody Stop Me - PLEASE!!

I am having such fun on the web today!

Why is today any different?  It started out like any other day.  Internet Explorer 7 froze on me several times as I traveled the web.

I emailed Jeff Dowler about something and a series of emails ensued.  We got to chatting about Internet Explorer.  He has 6.  I have 7.  We each hate it.  He said his daughter uses Firefox and loves it.  I asked him:

"what the heck are we waiting for then?"

I came to AR to search "Firefox" and got a ton of results.  As I read one article that looked particularly interesting, guess what happened?  IE7 froze on me for the 7th time in several hours.  How appropriate.  That was the last straw!!

I waited as I ended the non-responsive program (NO, I do not want to send an error report to Microsoft, thank you very much.  Have any of the 178 other reports I sent in the last 2 weeks helped?)

I booted IE7 up again and returned to the article.  Looking around making sure Microsoft was not watching, I clicked on the download link.

I then had to try out my new toy.  What did I do first on Firefox?  I returned to ActiveRain and visited Brad Andersohn's blog.  His blog ALWAYS freezes my IE7. (Brad, that ought to tell you how valuable each of the comments I have ever left you really are...there was much patience and clicking involved in each one).

Did Brad's hyper tech blog have the power to freeze the great Mozilla Firefox? NO!  NO!  A thousand times NO!

MUHA HA HA HA HA HAHAH AH AHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAH!

I AM MAD WITH POWER!!

Jeff, you might want to make the switch or eat my dust.  This baby's fast!

P.S. Can somebody tell me how to open a new tab in Firefox?  I need to add some love links to this post =)

Smile, this was a very funny post.  I enjoyed reading your experience.  I had firefox until I moved over the Netscape 8.1 (I hate the new 9.0,) if you click on preferences/tools you can add the tab to create a new window;  you can also set your search engine to create a new window as you search for new and/or additional websites.

Hope this helps.

MarQuis - thank you!  I know I need to read some tutorials on this but asking for help seemed so appropirate. =)

Marlene - I know, I know.  We want everything yesterday.  But honestly, a freezing browser was just not working for me.  Everything had taken me 3 times as long this last month with that issue.

Sam - anytime!  Come back tomorrow for the matinee.  Half priced and not as many people trying to take that seat away from you. =)

HI Maggie.. before I leave.. here are anothe two. One recommended by our own Jeff Turner.. it's called Flock. I must say.. i just startd using it and really like it. Another one is basic, but i still like it.. it feels like it loads pages faster than other browers... the World.   as a old-style techie.. i've always had an extra browser on hand in case a certian virus attacks I.E. i have others browsers ready to go! btw, my IE6 works just fine though.. but Flock is catching my heart :)

later gator..

ps. CONTROL-T is for a new tab. or right click a link and press 'T' or select 'open in a new Tab' :)

Nick - have I told you lately that you are my favorite nerd?  (and you do know that I use that term with lots of love, right?)  Thanks for the links!

WELCOME, MAGGIE!!!!!  I Love It!!

Click File and then New Tab, that's all there is to it.  The only worry is that you can click those little X'es and close out a tab without meaning to.  I only wish that I could use MLS in Firefox.  *SIGH*  They are SO behind the times!

Wow...all these things....how come I have IE7 and I have no problems? (maybe it's because I always have a couple windows open just in case I want to read Brad's haha)

I am getting some freezing on blogs using IE

but I don't just fault IE... there are a lot of widgets that do some crazy things

the question I have is how appropriate are they if they're causing this trouble

and how much are you hurting consumers that are ttrying to read your site and see a bunch of errors when they do

Maggie, You are too funny. Firefox works much better especially if you are blogging from your office. Good Luck with your new power.

Hey Maggie, and anyone else who cares to answer - what is the difference between IE and Firefox?  What does one do that the other doesn't?

If whoever responds can get it into Jason's technology skull, I can probably understand it, too.    ;-)

Maggie I have been using FireFox for almost two years now and I would never go back to Internet Explorer again.

In response to Ann Cummings question, the difference is that it does not seem to conflict with other programs like Internet Explorer does.  I use to have all sorts of problems with my Outlook when I had both it and Internet Explorer opened, but with Firefox no problem.  I also do not freeze up any where the number of times that I did with Internet Explorer.

David makes good point about the errors and how worth is all this stuff on the blogs. I test my pages in IE (which works flawlessly for me), Firefox, World, Netscape, and now the two links i provided. some always lok funky, but then i consider the % of people on IE and/vs. Firefox.
the new IE (7) sucks.. period. security issue, etc. 6 isn't as problematic, if your system is clean, but seems to be the first to act up if something is mildly out of tune, or there is a lack of resources (like too little RAM, etc). overall. Firefox's tabbed browsing is cool.. but check out Flock, its integrated search fundtions, tab browsing and other geek toys are really hot. like, mucho caliente.. ay ay ayyyy!!

ok, i'm a geek :)

EDIT: ok, now i gotta download Opera and test that. see what you did!?

EDIT2: ps. Opera falls short. the bomb diggity is Flock. I think i found a new browser!!

Maggie - I had to switch to Firefox a long time ago.  IE7 would freeze on the groups page and then when I tried to type comments, half of my keys on the board didn't work.  AR says it's something to do with some technobabble stuff. Love FF!  It rocks!!  I had no idea the pain and suffering you were going thru on my blog.  There's hardly anything there anymore. Thanks for being such a trooper.

To get additional tabs, just go up to the pull down "File" and select "New Tab". That's it and thats the least I can do to help you after all the comments and suffering I put you through!!  LOL!  (Big Smile).

Maggie- I love Firefox! IT is the best discovery I made in a long time. I discovered Firefox in January as I was studying internet marketing online with different mentors and they told me that all serious IMers use FireFox. Well, that did it for me! I got it and haven't looked back since! I like to pull down each person who comments link and you can not do that with I7 but you can with Firefox! Katerina

Maggie, I've been using Firefox for a couple of years.  I prefer it over IE, especially its predictive typing when you fill in forms.  I do keep IE on the computer as well, because some pages react better to it.

To open a new tab in Firefox, click File, then New Tab...

Maggie,

I have been using Firefox for a while.  I think it is great.  I hate the few websites out there that still require IE  but found a cool tool to solve that:  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419  That allows me to see how something looks in IE without using it.

Hi Maggie-I love Firefox...I only use IE for editing my site.  In most instances firefox is compatible.  There are several things I love about firefox. The main thing is all the add ons and the security.  I love the session restore...especially while running spell check through your post.  How many times does it shut down?

Firefox uses lots of memory so it is always better to open a new tab rather than a window.. Think I am smart...the hubby taught me all of this....just smart for marrying him!

Rita, that's a cool site.  I will have to check it out.  Thanks!

Midori, thanks for the tips.  Tell your hubby I said thanks!

Linda - it's been great so far!  and I haven't even added any of the add-ons I've heard about.  I also heard about Flock which Nick M. mentions above.  I may check it out if I can find the time.  Just knowing I've regained half my workday by not having a freezing browser makes me happy!
