ActiveRain...Helping Friends Stay In Touch

I received an email from a friend in Jersey the other day.  She mentioned the picture on my website and I had to ask her:

"What picture?"

I don't have a picture on my website or my blogsite so she piqued my curiosity.  She replied that she was keeping up to date on what was going on in my life by reading my website.

Oh this was just getting better and  better!  You see, my website isn't updated and my blogsite is mostly about real estate.

I realized she was referring to Active Rain!  When I asked her how she found it she said she googled my name.  I thought that was so funny.  She apparently hasn't bookmarked AR.  She just googles my name and reads up on my latest tale.  Hi Claudine!!

Just another of the 1001 uses for Active Rain.

MD,

I had two former classmates locate me from googling my name on A/R.

What an amazing tool this is!

Maggie I googled my name the other day and was surprised how many pages my name was on because of ActiveRain.  I guess all of us on here are probably pretty easy to find these days.

I've been wanting to congratulate you on your new photo, Maggie.  I was a little shocked the first time I hit one of your posts with the new shot.  I thought I was in the wrong place.  Then I thought....she's posted a photo of her 16 year old....the one she's teaching to DRIVE.  Then I realized....it was, indeed, YOU!

I loved reading your post tonight.  I've been fighting through (forgive the term, but I hope you'll appreciate my meaning) something like 45 comments on a post regarding our reputations on AR.  Your post made my point for me beautifully, and with your permission, I'd like to link it back to mine, which is here for you to read, if you have a chance.

I've kept quiet on your blogs lately.  Sounds like you're just overwhelmed, and I'm THRILLED for you.  My silence is only out of respect!

Cheers! from DC...

Maggie - It's amazing how people find us through this medium.  Ridiculous as it may seem, I have had several former classmates 'Google' my name and find me here.  They say, "I'm not surprised."  Whatever that means:-)

I often wonder if AR had been around 30 years ago if I would have been found by my father sooner - if you google my name now - I generally out rank Russian stuff finally LOL - great story Maggie - December is coming up - finally we will get to meet.

I find it humorous that the other realtors in town read my blog but it has not yet occurred to them that they should have one.  Alrighty, then.

At my recent high school reunion nearly everyone I spoke to told me how much they liked my blog.  I loved it!!
Posted by Sarah Cooper (Real Estate Shows) over 2 years ago

I hate it when I answer 10 comments and forget to copy before I submit.  I always lose them!  Let's try this again......

Susie - imagine what she may find!

Mana - and it's so much good stuff.  Yay AR.

Scott - men probably fare better with older acquaintances just because you don't change your name when you marry.  I need to google my maiden name and see if anything comes up.  hmmmm...

Marlene - you're such a sweetie...always....thanks for that =)

George - it is incredible how powerful AR is.  I know you don't have to worry about censoring your posts.  Your writing's above board always. =)

Paula - now that you put it that way...whole life..yikes!  Thank goodness Members Only doesn't make it out there!

Rita - thanks for the compliment.  I'm not sure what she thought of my writing.  Just the fact that she found me impressed me enough though =)

Jaynee - you are much too kind to me.  A 16 year old?  I wish!  As for your post, you did a phenomenal job with it. I read it and tried to comment twice but Explorer kept freezing on me.  I never made it back.  Sorry!  Feel free to speak up on any of my posts.  Please!

Steve - you guys are so lucky!  My college friends wouldn't know what new name to search for.

Irina - that is definitely a neat fringe benefit to writing on Active Rain. =)

Jason - I guess it means you were creating a name for yourself even then.  I'm not surprised.  ;)  I just googled you too.  Grass seeds? =)

Ines - that is pretty cool.  Awesome even!

Cyndee - work-wise the weekend was less than I expected.  Heart-wise, any day I'm around to spend time with the family and loved ones is a good one.  =)

Thesa - what Russian stuff?  I just googled your full name and the whole page is yours.  Just your first name brings up teacher's and sports associations and you again.  You GO girl!  I'm catching up on my sleep now so we can partay in December!

Janie - no more picture changing.  This was done last week at the Board and it will stay up.  Until I change my mind again, of course!  LOL

Chris - does it really surprise you that they don't have a clue?

Missy - Very true.  YIKES!  I guess I should watch what I put out there, no?  As if I could. =)

Jennifer - keep writing on Active Rain.  It doesn't get much simpler than that.  Pretty neat.

Sarah - you came in as I was replying.  Good morning =)  I'm wondering about your name.  Did your HS classmates find you because you haven't changed it?  Or because it's a small town?  I went to HS in New York City and I know they could never find me based on word of mouth.
Posted by Pinecrest | Coral Gables| Maggie Dokic, SFR (Prudential Florida Realty) over 2 years ago
OK, I just googled my maiden name and came up with an unsolved homicide in Anchorage, AK, a supermodel (ha!) and several Spanish station tv shows.

Maggie, I changed my name, I used to be a Murphy.  They found me because I wrote about the reunion, and when they Googled it, I popped up before the official site.  :o)  I think I may have used my maiden name in the post, too.
Posted by Sarah Cooper (Real Estate Shows) over 2 years ago
Sarah - I'm getting old.  Now that you mention it, I remember your post about the high school reunion and the fact that your Dad's name is Murphy.  Time for some Ginko Biloba for me!
Posted by Pinecrest | Coral Gables| Maggie Dokic, SFR (Prudential Florida Realty) over 2 years ago
Mags, we are all getting old.  I would take Ginko Biloba, but I would forget to take it daily.  Nice post  (why did you delete your last comment?  Jason is waiting for the jello :))

Maggie, your AR blog was the first one I ever commented on when I joined AR, and now this comment will take me over 50,000 points!  I thought yours would be a wonderful blog to do it on, and this post is particularly appropriate since is is about friends found on the internet.  Thanks!

Sally - that very thought strikes me sometimes and I shudder!  lol

Joanne - I am so flattered by both of those actions.  Wow.  Thank you so much for letting me know.  I'm on my way for a little visit over at your place.  Congratulations are in order!
