Most of us Realtors® have them. Well, we should.
I'm talking about our Realtor® pins. I personally have 11. I have no excuse for not having mine on.
Did you know they don't only come in the blue we see all the time? The blue is for residential Realtors®. They also come in a snazzy red for commercial Realtors®.
If you have your pin, I'm sure you try to wear it all the time. Many posts have been written about the marketing opportunities opened up by doing this on a daily basis. Standing on line at the grocery store, returning a book to the library, picking up the take-out pizza...the possibilities are endless.
But did you know that there's a preferred place to wear the pin? if you look around, of those who proudly wear their pin, most wear it on their left side, over their heart. While this may have some sentimental value, I'm here to tell you there's a better place!
Your pin whould be worn on the right side indstead. Why? Because when you shake hands with someone you use your right hand. As you reach out your hand to shake hands, you will create a visual line that draws the person's eyes up that line (your arm) and they will notice your pin much more readily.
Easy, no? Yes! Who says good things have to be difficult?

Maggie, I did not know that!! I have no idea where my pin is. That is so bad.
I'm not sure where my pin is, but I do try to wear my name badge if I am doing (or thinking of doing) anything related to work. I wear it shopping if dressed appropriately even if I have no intention. Will need to dig up mine or order a new one! Thanks1
thanks Maggie, I will try to make that part of my attire. i wear my nametag. It is magnetic and doesn't poke holes in my clothes.
Hi Maggie,
Thanks for the info. I hand out pins at the new Realtor orientation classes, it's such a fun thing to do. It's the way we conclude the session, I shake their hands and hand them a pin.
Thanks for the info, I'll pass it along to my class.
Hello everyone! Thank you all for stopping by. You've reminded me that my new name tag hasn't arrived yet and I won't know where to put what when it comes! lol My suggestion, of course, was for the pin if that's all you're wearing. If you're donning more than one item, I would wear the more prominent one (name tag) on the right and the R pin on the left. And make sure you don't have to go to any courthouses or airports that day. beep beep beep beep beep beep =)
Mariana, you made me laugh, you stealth Realtor you.
Psssst, hi Sue!
maggie - shhh I do not own one - lol - and yeah I am a REALTOR®
Thesa - gasp! I see my collection of pins slowly dwindling. =)
I don't know where my R pin is. I don't think I saved it. I don't save awards or anything either. I saved one, only because on of my friends was the president of the board and gave it to me.
Anything that will start a conversation is good marketing.
I don't thik I would be comfortable wearing a pin myself, though. Just not a jewelry kind of guy
My sorority pin used to have to go over my heart! My name badge goes on my right side. It seems more natural wear it on the left, but my seatbelt presses it into my skin, so it goes on the other side. Now I have one more good reason to wear it and my pin on the right.
Congratulations on that shiny yellow star Maggie!
Maggie,
I lost track of how many I have had...I think I lost them in the wash or they fell off my suits at the dry cleaners. I used to wear them mostly to different meetings etc.
For those of you that lost your "R" pin, here's a source to replace it.

They come in all shapes, colors, and sizes.
I think you've made a (R)eally good point about whe(R) to wea(R) your (R)ealtor(R) Pin! Seriously though, it's simple but effective. Thanks..
Hey Maggie - I LOVE this post!! I wish more REALTORS would wear their pin. NAR's been pushing the REALTOR R for awhile now, and it really is "The Hardest Working Letter in the Alphabet" - that was the slogan for a time. "Look for the REALTOR R".........
I have a variety of pins, and Jim Lee commented above me with a variety of what's available. I never go out without one on. I love the magnetic pin - great for those light materials that you don't want to poke a hole through, and it works well with thicker materials, too.
GREAT job with this post!! And congrats on the feature - it should be featured!

Maggie,
I wrote about the REALTOR pin earlier this year.

How many of you own a REALTOR lapel pin?
How many of you wear it daily?
Let me share a quick REALTOR success story with you.................
As I was leaving a non-REALTOR event a few weeks back and awaiting my car from the valet, I began small talk with a woman standing next to me in the lobby. We discussed the weather and such. The woman then asked me if I was a REALTOR. Surprised by the question, I realized she spotted my REALTOR lapel pin. She said that she and her husband were new in the area and were looking for a REALTOR! Not having a pen or pencil on me, I gave her my card and asked her to give me a call. The next day I received an email from her husband. We are now working together to find their next home. Cha-ching!
Moral of the story ... Wear your REALTOR pin with pride!
Sorry about the triple post, can't seem to get rid of it. REgards, Suzi
PS: Jim, the link is great, thanks for sharing that.

My past life I was in the service industry the day I quit bartending I swore to myself I would never wear a name tag again.
So now I wear my REALTOR pin. It works.
Maggie, I am going to have to find my Realtor pin. I know it's around here somewhere...
I'd like to borrow sister Sally's Wooooo Hoooooo, here. Thanks for the featured post moderator!
Thank you all for your comments. I meant this idea for any sort of pin you wear (or name badge, for that matter). I have my CLHMS pin but I do not wear that as often (more to professional functions than my everyday doings). I am awaiting the arrival of my new name badge and have not yet decided where I will wear what. Because the idea is to get them noticed, wearing one on either side should cover it!
I smiled at the thought that lots of you do not even know where your Realtor pin is. As long as you're wearing something while you're out there, no harm, no foul.
To the unidentified person two comments above: Jim Lee was thoughtful enough to include a link to where you can purchase a pin. It sounds as if you're not a Realtor though so you may not want to waste your time with the link. The Realtor pin shows that the wearer is a member of the National Association of Realtors and has taken an oath to adhere to a strict code of ethics.
Of course, the post was about the placement of the pin and not the pin itself, so this can be used for any pin or namebadge you may wear. It was also meant for those times when you're wearing one item only. If you're wearing two or more, both left and right sides would be appropriate.
