This post isn't about real estate. Not directly anyway. It's about a neat site one of my sellers told me about. I take time to make small talk with my customers. It's not small to me. I really do enjoy connecting with people this way. Sometimes this means it takes longer to get things done (I had a 5 hour listing presentation once!) but I really do enjoy the connections I make with my customers.
I have a seller who rescues Dalmatians. He presently has five in his home. But these 5 are all his. Steve's home is their home. Some are maimed from when they were with previous owners. It's heartbreaking.
Steve has lost beloved animals in the past. If you are an animal lover, I know you understand. A pet is not "just a dog" or "just a cat." A pet is part of the family. They are special little creatures who love unconditionally. Feeling crabby? Everyone else in the house may stay clear of you, but Fido doesn't mind. He still comes running and wants to play with you.
Steve showed me a beautiful framed picture of a rainbow and an open gate. I read the writing on it and was touched. He told me about the site Rainbow's Bridge. It's a virtual memorial for pets. Beloved pets who have passed on can frolic and play there as they await their masters' arrival on the rainbow bridge.
Other animal lovers stop by, read the memorials and sometimes offer their condolences and words of support. Connecting with others who have lost beloved pets makes the grief a little easier to get through. I thought the site was special enough to pass on to others. Enjoy your visit!
This post was inspired by one of Active Rain's resident animal lovers, Lysa Napolitano. Any little critter who needs help is lucky to be in her path. Thanks for all you do for the little helpless ones Lysa!

Midori - just from speaking to her on the phone a couple of times and her lovely comments and emails, I think she's grand. But then, the two of you are each lucky to have the other working with you, aren't you?
Janessa - it's so nice to see a new face stop by! Thank you. Polo is such a great name for a dog! They do endear themselves to us with their non-stop love, don't they? We lost our little Pepper in November and still miss her terribly. She was only 2 years old so it was even harder. Someone gave us another doggie and we've now made room in our hearts for Fifi. Enjoy your lovely Polo. Please scratch the back of his ears...from me!
Jay
Yep, you are one of the sweetest people I know. No doubt about it my friend.
Awwww Elaine, I'm sorry I made you cry. You had 3 Doberman Pinschers? Wow. When I was a kid I really, really, really wanted one. I don't know why. They looked so fierce and I think I felt I could go anywhere in town if I had a Doberman to protect me. I later found out that any loyal dog becomes ferocious when their master's in danger. What kind of dog is Murph? Do you have a picture? Feel free to post one if you do! of your Dobies as well. I remember fondly the many pets I've had throughout my lifetime.
Jay - I'm going to be apologizing, it seems. Sorry I got you too! I really didn't mean to do that. Please take a tissue and pass them around to the others. But not before I take one for myself. Coo-Coo was a beautiful dog. Did you do the oil painting? I wouldn't be the least surprised, with the beautiful graphics you do at the Codgers. It's very nice!
Emmett - that's a sad story. It must have been very difficult for all. I have hopes of seeing all my beloved pets again one day...Princess, Mickey, Gufi, Coco, Cat, and little Pepper. None of them knew each other here, but they all knew me and I'm hoping they're playing nice now as they await my arrival! Thank you for stopping by my blog and commenting.
I have a real estate friend who just recently lost her 13 year old dog followed by her 19 year old cat. I will pass your post along to her.
I have a customer that rescues French Mastiffs, she has 4 of her own and usually has several extra rescues.
Cyndee - welcome to pet ownership! Like kids, they are a lot of work. But also like kids, they are very rewarding. I don't put my hands down near Fifi or she'll lick them over and over again. It's so funny how she can't get enough attention from us.
Joan - I had no idea that those leaves are toxic! I knew about the poinsiettas. Wow. I'm so sorry. She must be devastated. Please give her my condolences. I think placing pets with seniors is such a fabulous effort. Both have so much love to give and they just naturally bring it out in each other.
Marchel - a double whammy?! How terrible. I think folks that get involved with dog rescue efforts are so wonderful! if it were not for them so many of those poor animals would be put to sleep. I preach responsible pet ownership - getting them fixed! Our two cats were so angry with us when we took them in for their appointments. But, oh well, they got over it. =)
Maggie, this is the sweetest post. I know my old pets are waiting for me in heaven. It wouldn't BE heaven if they weren't there, so I don't have a doubt about it at all. They have personalities and souls just like we do. And I have tears in my eyes thinking of the ones I miss. Thanks for this.
And I've got to say that Lysa is just one of the sweetest people EVER. She sent Tall One some whale pictures because she knows of her love of marine life. Tall One TREASURES those photos. Lysa, thanks again for encouraging her!! (Lysa took these pictures herself!! I'm amazed at her photography skills AND at her location, as a totally landlocked person, I don't often see whales.) ;o)
Maggie, you've got me in tears. Thank you so much. I've got two beloved pets there at the Rainbow Bridge who I lost 1 month apart. Kapena Kai my 16 yr old kitty and Snoopie a pit bull rescue who was horribly abused. I lost them right after 9/11 and the Rainbow Bridge website kept me "sane".
Thank you again.
Sarah - I agree with you 110% about Lysa. And to think I may not "know" her if I hadn't stopped by her blog. Or did she stop by mine first? No matter, one of us read, commented and a friendship blossomed. Isn't amazing at the wonderful opportunities we have in the Rain? Please remember that you and Tall One (and the rest of your gang too) have had invitations to visit Florida and enjoy all it has to offer. My offer still stands!
Lysa - I'm sorry about your pets. That's always rough. I'm sure you have wonderful memories of them. You made me laugh with your other comment. There's a place in the keys where folks pay a dollar to get out on a dock and feed the tarpon. If you want a bucket of fish to feed them that's 2 bucks. The tarpon are the size of loveseats! Anyway, there's sea gulls and pelicans that hang out there and are always trying to steal fish. That part is sometimes more entertaining than feeding the tarpon. Those birds will go to great lengths to be fed!
I loved reading all the comments!
My first Dobie was Rommel (left in the photo). He was my soulmate. When he was 5, Brandy (right) joined us as a year-old. I volunteered with the humane
society, and that's where I met her. Both died of lymphoma within 6 months of each other.
My third Dobie was Brutus. I told him he was a wuss - he loved everybody and everything! Even the rabbits didn't run when he went out into the yard! He died at age 7 of cardiomyopathy - a common ailment in the breed.
The Murph is a mini long-haired doxie. He's on my AR profile page. He's more of a guard dog than Brutus ever was and would definitely think he could take on the Dobies. ;-)
Elaine - thank you for coming back and writing about your beautiful Dobies. And for the pictures too. I always did think they are beautiful animals. I still do. Based on what you're telling me, I now think I probably would not have made a good Dobie mistress as a child. I would have probably let him have his way as far as leading the pack. Your dogs were beautiful and regal. And your Murph is super cute! My Fifi's a little fleabag but we love her anyway.
Ines - I did! Thanks. Hopefully I can understand comments the first time around now that I've slept some =)
